MindFuel had a special guest this week, The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, minister of science, stopped by to learn about MindFuel and its programs.

“It is an honour to host Minister Duncan, Stephanie Muccilli (policy advisor) and David Migadel (executive director, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, Prairie and Northern Region) during their recent visit to Calgary,” said Cassy Weber, CEO, MindFuel. “We get excited when we get the chance to share our work and its focus on encouraging students to pursue STEM career paths.”

After a brief presentation highlighting MindFuel’s work in creating and offering non-traditional STEM learning resources, the discussion turned how to engage more female students in science education, specifically post-secondary learning. Minister Duncan’s background in science and her keen interest in Canada’s ability to be a technology leader led to a conversation about encouraging young women to pursue STEM careers paths and the importance of retaining our knowledge workers in Canada.

MindFuel offers three scholarships to students entering into STEM-related post-secondary studies in Alberta.
