Once again, the MindFuel scholarship program is accepting applications. Together with the Alberta Science and Technology Leadership (ASTech) Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded through an industry initiative in 1989 to showcase the substantial achievements in science and technology in Alberta and to promote the importance of these activities to social and economic benefit, this year there are five cash awards available to Alberta students entering their first year of STEM-related studies at an Alberta post-secondary institution.
“We are pleased to be able to provide financial support to students with a passion for science, technology, engineering or math, heading off to college, university or a polytechnic in September,” said Cassy Weber, MindFuel CEO. “These scholarships are made possible by generous donors who understand the importance of encouraging our young people to pursue STEM-related careers.”
New this year is the ASTech-GrowSafe Systems scholarship in memory of Dr. Terry Rachuk, PhD. The successful recipient of this scholarship must be passionate about engineering, animal health or the food chain and entering a STEM-related field of study.
“MindFuel’s mission is to create the next generation of critical thinkers, innovators and problem-solvers,” Cassy added. “The MindFuel scholarships are an investment in Alberta’s future. They are meant to address challenges facing our province and our country: shortage of knowledge workers focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and the ongoing need to build a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.”
The MindFuel scholarship program was launch in 2014 as part of MindFuel’s 25th anniversary celebration. It honours the amazing work of three dedicated, long-time MindFuelers who embody the organization’s values: James (Jim) Gray, Anne Tingle and Dr. Arlene Ponting. In 2017, the ASTech Foundation added a scholarship to the MindFuel program, and in 2018 they added another, bringing the number of awards to five.
Scholarship applications close Wednesday, May 31, 2018 at 4 pm MT.
