Twelve Calgary schools recently took home a total of 24 Ignition Packs as part of MindFuel’s annual distribution day – all made possible by the generous support of the Rotary Club of Calgary North, the Rotary Club of Calgary West, and Syncrude Canada.
“MindFuel is thrilled to continue its ongoing efforts to place Ignition Packs in Alberta schools with the help of our amazing funding partners,” said Alma Abugov, MindFuel’s director of development and community engagement. “This STEM learning resource is aligned with Alberta’s Program of Studies and engages students in learning fundamental scientific concepts through exploration, experimentation and critical thinking.”
Hosted at the MindFuel office, teachers from both the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District spent time with funders and received two new Ignition Packs for their schools.
“This was the second time we provided the funding and attended a distribution event,” said Bill Lawless, member of Rotary Club of Calgary West. “We welcome the opportunity to meet the teachers who use the kits and to discuss what they think of them. Each time, we learn more about MindFuel, and gain a greater appreciation of the program.”
The Ignition Packs that were distributed cover the following science units:
- Grade 5 – Wetland Ecosystems
- Grade 7 – Interactions & Ecosystems
- Grade 8 – Freshwater & Saltwater Systems
One of the recipient teachers, Amber Bohaychuk from St. Ambrose School, enthusiastically shared, “What an amazing resource! As teachers, we are often stretched thin with our time. When it comes to building comprehensive units with high quality presentation and lesson material connected to the real world, it is such a relief to have the ready-to-go Ignition kits available from MindFuel. We are so fortunate to have the generous sponsors making these invaluable resources available to us for the benefit of our students.”
Ignition Pack brings classroom science to life with the resources teachers need to teach a complete unit of science. From the team that brought you Science-In-A-Crate, Ignition Packs are a combination of engaging hands-on materials and digital learning resources designed to enhance the 21st century classroom. Each kit includes over 20 hours of teaching materials, including engaging PowerPoint lessons, made-in-Alberta videos featuring scientists and real-world applications, and detailed lesson plans. Ignition Packs are great for both experienced science teachers, as well as teachers teaching the science unit for the first time.
